Wire Worx
Wire Worx New Location
A Jamestown business on the move

Has business in downtown Jamestown turned the corner? Well, according to Wire Worx, a fourteen month old business located on business loop west, it just may have.

A business started in December of 2002, in a one stall garage, Wire Worx showed signs of success from the very beginning. They are a unique business in Jamestown that provides auto and home sound systems. They also offer vehicle efficiency and remote auto-start systems. With no advertising or any building signage at the time of start of business, word of mouth and working with the auto dealers in Jamestown led to a solid booking of auto start installations, one of the product and installation offerings. Start up revenues for the first few months were beyond expectations. In order to provide capitol for additional inventory, the business needed a loan. This is when the SBDC became involved.

Amber Burkett, the owner of the business, visited the SBDC seeking advice and a loan. Amber wrote her business plan and worked with Jim Lees at the Jamestown SBDC to develop financial projections. She also applied for an SBA Micro Loan through the Lake Agassiz Regional Council.

In late summer, Amber's company received the proceeds from the loan request. Since then, she has hired another employee and plans in April 2004 to move to a much larger facility at the corner of the 500 block south, on 1st Avenue in downtown Jamestown. Amber says they will hire another employee very soon and are considering hiring another employee by mid summer.

When asked how the business has changed in the past year, Amber responded, "It has grown tremendously, from limited offerings to being able to provide many more services." Amber says, "I would definitely recommend the SBDC to other start up businesses. It really helped us get rolling by helping us find the working capitol we needed to grow."
